Insight 2 - Our World is Not Natural
Lifelessness is the natural state of the universe and life is not natural, but supernatural
We often speak of “mother nature” and of our “natural” world teeming with “natural” life and, locked as we are in the prison of our own experiences, we have come to regard this life-filled world as something to be expected, and so we have chosen the word “natural” to describe it.
If, however, we were to take a realistic view of the whole of the physical reality of the universe, of which we are aware, we would notice that the natural state of the universe, and of all the billions of stars in it, is in fact the absence of all life. Lifelessness is the natural state of the universe. As far as we know, only one tiny speck contains life, and that is our world. And so, our world is not natural; it is absolutely extraordinary and quite exceptional – it is supernatural! This remarkable fact is vividly mirrored in the human body. Look at the pathologist’s report on your blood. See how complicated it is and how many miraculous variables must be in place for your good health. As each of these stop functioning our health deteriorates and eventually we become lifeless and die, returning to the natural state of the universe. In fact, disease itself is a partial reversion to that natural state. It follows that our bodies are not natural but supernatural too! Podcast ChaiFM - Insight 1 & Insight 2
