Insight 3 - The “I” of the Universe
Just as our essential “I” cannot be located by an examination of every part of our bodies, so God cannot be located by an examination of the physical universe
The world and the universe appear to us as purely physical. We see this physicality all around us, and as far as we can see into the universe. Where in all of this physicality is the spiritual being who we believe is the force behind every physical object we perceive?
A similar problem arises with the human body. No search of the body, however thorough or invasive, will isolate and identify the “I”. It will not be found in the blood, or in the flesh, or in any of the organs, including the brain. All that our search will yield will be perceivable, measurable physicality. And yet each of us knows that the “I” is there. Indeed, the “I” is the most important component of any of us. It is the “I” that makes us each individually irreplaceable. It is the “I” that we mourn when death occurs, and the “I” we honour when we bury the dead. The universe also is infused with an invisible, non-physical “I”. Podcast ChaiFM - Insight 2 & Insight 3 |
